US is choreographed and performed by celebrated dancer Alexandra Beller and directed by HERE Artistic Director Kristin Marting. Alexandra Beller's US begins with the premise that patriotism can be an addiction that blinds us to the truth. Like any drug, nationalism can alter the chemistry of the mind, obliterating compassion, consciousness, and curiosity. In a series of duets with anthropomorphized objects (including a mop and an inflatable sex doll) Beller blurs the lines of dance and theater using text, song, virtuosic dance, and original sound design. The work was developed and produced through a residency at HERE Arts Center from 2006-2007.
