Choreolab is for experienced art makers looking to take their craft to another level and to engage with a similar community of artists to support them through a specific creative process. An informal performance follows the final class, with professional videography.
In this workshop, we work towards finding opposite sides of the critical eye: both learning to create material in an uninhibited and impulse-driven manner, to be wild, fantastical, and daring, and equally, learning to strongly critique, edit and objectively structure material for a performative event. One of the most important elements of the workshop is developing out skills in both watching and discussing the work of others while getting ourselves out of the way. We draw feedback methods from various sources, including Critical Response Process, Fieldwork Methods, and other entry points for discussing choice making. Our goal is to learn to both view and respond to work in a way that lets go of our personal beliefs, opinions, and desire for control, and relays information that is useful, conscientious, and illuminating to the artist.
